How I Work

The right therapeutic approach is essential.

In my work with clients, I use several types of therapeutic modalities. The approach selected depends on each client’s individual needs. Therefore, there is no one-size-fits-all approach when working with me. (Keep reading below to get a feel for how I might help you, or click here to explore the other areas I may use.)

IFS (Internal Family Systems) offers healing and peace within the Self.

We all feel conflicted within ourselves at times. Like the internal critic that jabs at you after a personal win or celebration, telling you, “Yeah, but don’t get too cocky. You’re going to mess things up again at the next opportunity.” These internal voices – these parts of us – are not as helpful as they should be.

We’ll work together to heal those inner conflicts and re-establish peace within by gently getting to know the different parts of yourself. In IFS, you’ll develop a new and working relationship with parts of yourself that have left you feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Through the IFS process, my clients develop a profound compassion and gratitude for the aspects and parts of themselves that they previously did not like or appreciate.

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) helps calm chaos.

When your emotions are running high, or you find yourself stuck in the same cycles of behavior, DBT offers tools that help you create balance. This approach teaches you how to approach life more clearly and calmly – even in the chaos.

DBT, as the name suggests, is a behavioral therapy approach. It has a reputation for being able to help people who struggle with very intense emotions, highly conflicted relationships, and ineffective behaviors that keep them feeling stuck in cycles of pain and chaos.

This approach appreciates how people’s problems and pain are influenced and shaped by – at least – a` complex mix of environmental factors and genetic and personality predispositions. With DBT, there’s no judgment about why you are experiencing the problems you do. Instead, I’ll work with you to decipher where and how your situation may get off track, and you’ll leave therapy with a helpful and workable plan.

Using a DBT approach, we assume that the complex string of skillful behaviors and attitudes used by people with “successful, happy lives” are the same skills and behaviors that can be taught, learned, and practiced with me when we meet. I will help you design a tracking system for progress and wins. I’m here to help motivate and encourage you each step as you learn the tools needed to help you grow in your ability to calm intense pain, improve the quality of your relationships, and create mindful moments in life that bring joy and gratitude.

Group Therapy provides support and encouragement.

We live out our greatest sorrows and most profound joys in the context of relationships. Connection heals. In our individualistic culture, perhaps not many would think to take the risk of being authentically known and encouraged by a supportive group of peers.

I will help lay the groundwork in my groups and shape the context that inspires and ignites momentum and transformation.

Yes, opening up to more people can feel riskier, but where the risks seem multiplied, the benefits and impact are multiplied even more.
